Files description

hydropower.mp3 is a recording of an interview with Andrew Stobart by BBC Hereford & Worcester, the introduction is not given whole item available here http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p002bmlj/Keith_Gooden_11_03_2009/
scorpion01.pdf is a talk given by Andrew Stobart in October 1986, on the possible perils of The Greenhouse Effect, 23 years later we are still discussing the problem, with little action !!
Tidal Power gives some brief notes on the AUR Water Engine, which has potential for large rivers, with low heads. A detailed description of this technology is available, on aurnotes.pdf see also
Dawson Tidal is a report on the "Three Pond" system for tide ponds
reth05.jpg is a diagram of a ram pump on a stream at the bottom of a slope, pumping up to a head tank which then delivers to turbines or water motors.  This way a slow flowing stream can provide some "high head" energy. System was used in Victorian times eg at Osberton Hall, Notts, to provide power for a large house for lifts etc, and in this instance to drive the blower of the owner's pipe organ ! As a Ram Pump can deliver a very high pressure, it would be interesting to know if one has ever been "close coupled" to a turbine.
SmallHydro. Interesting recent article from Austria on Small Hydro Technology, Research & Development
timo_flashpohler_kaplano.pdf is a thesis on Kaplan Turbine design. Very useful for low head sites
reth01.jpg gives the methods for assessing the flow of water in a stream or other watercourse to establish the hydropower potential
offgrid.doc the thoughts of a "Homesteader" in the USA about the benefits of NOT being connected to the electricity grid. Much the same considerations may apply in UK  Also if used "offgrid", electric power is worth the value you do not pay for it. If sold to the grid this value may be much lower.
